Julia Church - 'Shiloh' / 'Japan'

South African artist Julia Church marks her impressive first and second releases of the year with the mellow single, ‘Shiloh’ and the brooding track, ‘Japan’.

Translating as ‘place of peace’ in Hebrew, ‘Shiloh’ is a soothing lyric-led song that sees Julia Church’s hushed, touching, vocal sit atop haunting strings, emotive keys and crystalline, shimmering tones. ‘Shiloh’ sees Church deliver a track that sweetly pacifies its listener, whilst also leaves a chill in its wake as it dips in and out of sorrow.

On the ideas behind the track, Church explains, "Shiloh is about my complex relationship with self-worth and making peace with who I am, in order to love someone else."

Church follows up ‘Shiloh’ with her current single ‘Japan’ showing off a different, more robust side to her sound. Church’s vocal takes on a brooding and darker tone, as it smoulders amongst downtempo trip hop tones and hypnotic, chiming production. ‘Japan’ is a crisp and edgy offering bursting with fresh energy , seeing Church take her listener on a beautiful journey to lose themselves in a new world alongside her.
