Album Review: Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – 'Viscerals'
Pigs x7 are back with the doom-laden sludge oases we all love.
Viscerals is Pigs x7’s third album shows that they have no intention of slowing down or cleaning up. The filthy sty that Pigs x7 wallow around in serves them perfectly as they push the boundaries and make sludge-metal poke it’s disgusting head out of the water to test your ears and break down any sense of mediocrity you may face.
If you haven’t heard of Pigs x7 before, the best way to describe them is growling yet clear vocals, heavy riff after heavy riff with wailing leads. The bass is mean, and the drums are like apocalyptic thunder. There’s a Melvins vibe too, if you dig them. If you’re already a fan, then you’re going to stay a fan after hearing Viscerals.
Previously released ‘Reducer’ and ‘Rubbernecker’ kick Viscerals off, followed by the seven-minute ‘New Body’ and a spoken word interlude-style track ‘Blood and Butter’. ‘World Crust’ has a great belter of a riff, and if you thought ‘New Body’ would blow your mind, just wait for the nine minutes of ‘Halloween Bolson’.
Pigs x7 have challenged themselves here within the sludge doom sound and pulled it off. And make sure you check them out live next year on their rescheduled tour dates.
