Blanketman – ‘I’m Taking You with Me’

Blanketman are Manchester’s newest guitar band prospects, and their debut single ‘I’m Taking You with Me’ promises any hype is certainly valid.

If you’re a fan of Squid, you’ll dig Blanketman’s new track. It has that 80s funky disco vibe that is based around a solid bassline and clean chopping guitars. It’s that new wave/post-punk sound that started with bands such as Talking Heads. The vocals are a bit quirky with a deadpan delivery similar to Damon Albarn, but the synth keys add pop element that does the song justice. What’s brilliant is each instrument on its own play simple parts, but all together Blanketman create an arty and joyous pop song.

If you’re not convinced (although you should be), before the pandemic Blanketman sold out a show in their hometown weeks in advance. Oh, and Steve Hanley of The Fall and Brix Smith & Extricated have performed live with them on two separate occasions. Just saying.
