ZELAH - 'Closer'

‘Closer’ is London duo ZELAH’s latest single. It follows their intimate single ‘Static’. It’s a sensual, simmering indie pop track. “Don’t make me wait/Just come in closer, closer to me,” yearns lyricist Zelah Van-Gowler. The song represents emotional turmoil and explodes into sound past the one minute mark, while featuring synths and strings. Van-Gowler’s vocals are commanding on this track, as well as mesmerising. They really draw you in when you hear the track.

Real life experiences were the inspiration behind ‘Closer’ and it’s one of the duo’s favourite songs to perform live. It explores the uncertainty when starting a new relationship but also the positivity behind being infatuated with someone (“Am I the last thing on your mind before you go to sleep?”). ‘Closer’ is an intoxicating single with clever lyrics and an exhilarating beat.
