There are sad songs, and SAD songs; the former may make you shed a tear or two, the latter prompt waterworks but in a way that is (strangely) therapeutic. Rosie Carney returns with a stunning EP that, beautifully poetic, follows in the footsteps of her incredibly personal debut album ‘Bare’.

‘i dreamed i was the night’ spans only three songs but, as we all know less is more and, in this case, three is all you need. Most likely all you can handle when we’re talking about soul-baring honesty. Each song is heart-wrenching in its own way. ‘when I look at you’ comes with a deep deep sadness, bringing with it an echo of pain that is impossible to pin-point because, somehow, its everywhere.

‘i spoke to god’ is an anthem of quiet hope; soft melodies running into a heartfelt chorus give the track an almost spiritual quality. But title track ‘i dreamed i was the night’ unmistakably takes the crown with its impeccable songwriting. Delicate but never missing a beat, Rosie brilliantly captures the sense of urgency you feel when you’re on the brink of losing someone; pleading for something, anything, to change: “you’re quiet and it is so loud, won’t you do something? Do something before I walk out.”

With ‘i dreamed i was the night’ Rosie Carney has crafted an EP that renders speechless. Words are not enough to capture the pure intensity flowing through this body of art. Thank you, Rosie, for 10 minutes of emotional healing.
