The Band Explains: Caravãna Sun - 'Charlie'

Sydney based outfit Caravãna Sun speak to us about their feel-good visuals for thoughtful jangle pop song, ‘Charlie’.

Where was the video filmed?
It was Filmed in Sydney, Aus in three locations. The Blue mountaints, Bondi beach and Cronulla.

How does the video connect with the song?
The video is a good time with friends. It's a snap shot into Caravãna Sun and the love we have for each other. It's a symbol of friendship and a true representation of what it means to be there for your friends. The song is about being open with your loved ones and being vulnerable enough to share and reach out in the dark times. From boat adventures to backstage hangs, the love runs deep. We wanted to portray the importance of being open with friends and know that support is always there for one another.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
When we set out on the water to film this video, we noticed the boat we had (Which was built in 1950 out of aeroplane material) had a hole in it and we could stop cause we'd all end up sinking to the bottom of the harbour. We pressed on and laughed our way out of a sticky situation, ending up with a whole bunch of hilarious footage.

Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
We found that by taking the camera back into our hands, we could point and shoot things that were special and meaningful to us. We could take the creative process one level deeper and portray ourselves in the light we felt and love we had for one another.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?

The beautiful thing about song is everyone will take something different. At the end of the day, the song is melancholic and uplifting. It's reflective and present. It has two shades and provides a canvas for people to fill in their life experience and how sometimes, all we need is a reminder that there is support and love around us, even if we may not see it.
