The Artist Explains: Marina Kaye - 'The Whole 9'
French alt pop artist Marina Kaye talks to us about her dark, medieval visuals for ‘The Whole 9’, which were inspired by Game of Thrones and tells a love story about how hard it is to make relationships work.
Where was the video for ‘The Whole 9’ filmed?
The video was filmed in a studio in Paris
How does the video connect with the song?
It’s not really connected to the song. What they have in common is the theme, they’re both about a love story and how hard it is to make things work.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
All I can say is that we had such a great time filming the music video. Everything was very smooth, everyone was very happy to be here. Oh yeah, the set was so cold my toes and fingers turned purple haha. I did recently publish a Behind the scenes video
Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The video is very medieval and very dark. People usually compare it to Game of Thrones and that was one of the references for it. I’m a huge fan of GOT
Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The video is about the difficulties you can encounter as a couple, and how you deal with them and make the best out of your situation. I wanted to show people that it’s easy to be in love, but it’s hard to be in a relationship and make it work sometimes.
