EP Review: Latir - 'Until Forever'
North London’s alternative R’n’B singer-songwriter and poet, Latir, has released his latest six-track EP ‘UNTIL FOREVER’.
Opening track ‘Juvenile Forever’ begins with the lyrics, “Born in the Springtime…”. It is a reflective number and is also the lead single to be taken from the EP. The song explores youth, living in the moment and following one’s passions against all odds. ‘Juvenile Forever’ features a hypnotic bassline which progresses into a heavier sound. It also follows Latir’s 2017 release ‘Juvenile Youth’. As Latir sings, “Summer’s coming”, you get a real sense of the warmer months ahead.
‘Wallflower’ is a nostalgic and captivating track. The production is unlike any you will hear on other tracks being released. It is fairly minimal, allowing Latir’s vocals to shine. “Like a flower stuck to a wall, I felt out of place too,” he says towards the end of the track. It’s a song which gives the listener a warm, fuzzy feeling.
‘Blue Roses’ is about love in the beginning stages of a relationship, but one where the romance never gets to blossom. This means there is a tinge of sadness to ‘Blue Roses’. It was inspired by personal events in Latir’s life. He sings soulfully, “The flowers had bloomed but her roses were blue”. He also sings, “We sat and watched our movie end”. The single was released on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. It features film samples too. It’s definitely a highlight of the EP.
The final track on ‘UNTIL FOREVER’, ‘Classic’ is a slow burner. Latir sings about being an ‘old soul’. His lyrics are poetic and draw you in. ‘UNTIL FOREVER’ is a very special collection of romantic songs. They are enhanced by distinctive production and Latir’s smooth vocals, as well as his personal and honest lyrics.
