otta – 'never see'
British-Finnish artist otta announces new EP ‘songbook’ (July 10th) alongside the release of a first taster ‘never see’.
The EP aims to explore the different meanings associated with a songbook. As otta explains: “A 'songbook' is this quite clean thing. I wanted to make my own one, but with the reality of what that would sound like for me. I knew from the way my music had been sounding that the completed songs would feel the opposite to the feeling I got from the word.” And that’s exactly what you find in ‘never see’: chaotic energy.
‘never see’ feels like scattered thoughts, organised chaos. Intriguingly eloquent verses wrapped in a re-verb heavy chorus that throws “never see” at you from varying distances and angles, give a structure to madness but it’s hard to shake off the lurking feeling of uneasy restlessness. Otta definitely manages to stir up hidden emotions with this song that she describes as "not being able to see the good that's around you and within you."
With its first single already bringing up all kinds of turmoil, it’s safe to say ‘songbook’ is going to be a rollercoaster of emotion.
