Album Review: Vistas - 'Everything Changes In The End'
The first album from Vistas has been a long time coming, the time is finally here, and each era of this band is present throughout ‘Everything Changes In The End’.
It feels like that this Edinburgh trio have been around forever, first gracing the scene in 2016 before ‘Retrospect’ certified themselves as one of the brightest indie prospects a year later. The trio have done nothing but work hard in those four years leading up to now, that passion is felt in every note and forms the backbone of this LP.
It’s not only their hard work that has got the three-piece to where they are today, their chaotic live show is what got people talking in the first place. Their album tour, like everything, has had the brakes put on it but it’s hard to think anything will top the celebratory atmosphere at their opening night at the Barrowland Ballroom in November.
Vistas have been generous in sharing snippets from ‘Everything Changes In The End’, with classics such as ‘Retrospect’ and ‘Tiger Blood’ getting a 2020 polish on them while newer tracks such as ‘Summer’ and ‘The Love You Give’ prove to be classics in the making. There wasn’t any doubt that the three-piece’s debut outing wouldn’t be 15 tracks of feel-good, bright-eyed indie anthems that aren’t ashamed to lean into ‘mainstream’ pop.
We get more than that, under the surface is a sentiment of togetherness and “being there for people” when challenges need to be faced. These characteristics have defined the life span of Vistas so far, it was only fitting that it would be the formative feeling of their debut LP, giving these feel-good anthems a sense of purpose and making ‘Everything Changes In The End’ one of the best debut albums of the year.
