EP Review: Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison - 'Sign Of The Times'
One of 2020’s hotly tipped acts, Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison battle to destigmatize mental health on the powerful new EP ‘Sign Of The Times’.
It feels like it has only been ups for this Cambridge outfit since they broke through in 2017, with the four-piece, fronted by the aptly named Tom Lumley becoming known for their atmospheric indie sound with lyrics that tackle real world issues which resonate with you long after.
2020 was set to be the band’s biggest year to date, with the release of the EP accompanied with a tour. Having cut their teeth alongside the likes of The Hunna and Sam Fender, the band’s live show has slowly become a must-see. Like all artists, plans have changed given the current situation but are set to shake rafters around the country in July starting off in Bristol.
For now, the focus is on the ‘Sign Of The Times’ era and Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison have jumped in head first with an EP that very much leaves the listener wanting more and more. Fans will all be too familiar with the hit ‘Casual’, being the band’s big breakthrough last year, but the big moments don’t stop there.
The overarching theme of the new EP is around “mental health” and tackling the sign of the times that our relationships are consumed by social media and phones. It’s refreshing to see such a band in its infancy show the mirror up to society like this, and the ‘Sign Of The Times’ EP really show Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison to be one of the best up and coming bands.
