Melbourne-based songwriters REINIER and Calypso team up on smouldering minimal electronic single, ‘Momma’.
Downtempo, layered electronics opens ‘Momma’, seeing REINIER create a hazy, smokey, yet irresistibly smooth atmosphere to back Calypso’s laid-back and enticing vocal. While mellow and spacious, ‘Momma’ also show off lushly layered ethereal production with a real graciousness about it.
On the ideas behind the track the duo explains, “The song is a representation of the struggle between light and dark or good and bad within the self and the sometimes internal conflict that goes on to reach a point where one prevails.”
Through ‘Momma’ REINIER and Calypso share an immersive, emotive and mature sound, a little dark, a whole lot of loveliness, overflowing with warmth as Calypso hits home the beautifully resilient lyrics, “I will never give up on myself, I will never give up on you" amidst a soundscape of exhilarating, controlled chaos.
‘Momma’ also comes accompanied with a music video filmed in Tasmania by We Are Moon House production company, which captures sprawling vastness and stunning imagery, accentuating the natural beauty and power in the song.
