The Artist Explains: Molly Moore - 'IRL'
Molly Moore speaks to us about her playful and colourful visuals for ‘IRL’ which explores the themes of a failing relationship and loving someone who no longer loves you back.
Where was the video for ‘IRL’ filmed?
It was filmed at Jennica's place in East LA!
How does the video connect with the song?
The video is basically a visual metaphoric representation of what I wrote the song about. It's about begging somebody to love you at your worst, codependency, and wanting to reignite a relationship that's falling apart.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
We actually ate legos in the flashback on the 2nd chorus. Doja Cat was the main soundtrack for shooting, everyone involved was so incredible and professional and I just want to say thank you to the team that helped me create this video.
Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
I wanted the video to feel surreal and child like, while simultaneously capturing the stagnant, trapped feeling that can encompass the end of a relationship.. It is meant to represent a lack of maturity and blind passion. I also wanted to portray the idea that colouring up a world on the outside doesn't always make the inside bright and beautiful. I find myself battling this constantly. 😊
Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
I wanted to show how you can get so wrapped up in a cycle with somebody that you lose yourself entirely. I wanted to show that it's okay to be vulnerable, it's okay to love somebody that doesn't love you anymore. Being honest is better than a beautiful lie.
