Enola Gay – 'The Birth of a Nation'
Belfast’s post-punkers Enola Gay share highly anticipated debut single ‘The Birth of a Nation’ - a statement piece that screams Black Lives Matter from every rooftop.
‘The Birth of a Nation’ is a sign of the times, and an important one no less. Framed by the siren-like sound of wailing guitars and distorted chaos of grungy basslines, Enola Gay take a stand against systematic oppression and racism. This song is a battle cry, a wake-up call, spitting facts that many are still reluctant to hear - “The Blacks get whacked, 6 warning shots in the back. The White gets a slap, on a better day sacked. The black gets killed for the white man’s thrill ‘cause the white man gets off, labelled mentally ill.” Its poignant lyricism is delivered with an air of urgency and maybe even a little tinge of helplessness. Either way, it’s a desperate call for much needed change.
With a debut as strong as ‘The Birth of a Nation’, there are no doubt big things on the horizon for the Welsh four-piece. Enola Gay – a name to remember.
