Baby Queen – 'Medicine'
Alt-pop sensation Baby Queen adds to her ever growing list of Gen-Z anthems with confessional new track ‘Medicine’.
Lead by poignant opening line “I used to wanna die but now I wanna live forever,” ‘Medicine’ talks about Bella’s relationship with anti-depressants. Set in a world of magnetic beats and synth-coated rhythms laced with the kind of casual cynicism that would make Matty Healy proud, the track glistens with unbound potential - "It's about a tangle of mental health and navigating your way through this world,” Bella reveals, “whilst being so unhappy and equally disillusioned with the cyber landscape that we are forced to live inside, and the different ways people might numb themselves, or try to find a place where they can exist in amongst all of this fucking chaos." But Baby Queen wouldn’t be Baby Queen if she didn’t spice up a perfectly melodramatic track with a big, hooky chorus that has you euphorically praising the devil – “Thank God for my medicine, I feel so apathetic when I take my medicine.”
Intimate vocals and deeply personal lyricism hint at the kind of well-rounded soundscapes we can expect from Baby Queen’s debut EP set for release later this year. Three singles into 2020, there is no denying it: Baby Queen is here to stay.
