A Day In The Life Of #18 : Ben Denny Mo
Ben Denny Mo talks to us about offbeat dreams, saving distraught children from trees, being best friends with his dog, and all things that go into a typical day in his life.
At 7am…
At 7am I’m hopefully still asleep, dreaming of playing a big venue or festival, or saving the world from alien invasion with a ninja attack squad before the alarm goes off! I don’t know why my dreams are always so strange. I’ve written the odd song about them such as Figures.
My Alarm goes off...
Currently my alarm goes off about 8am.
The first thing I do...
I hurl myself out of bed and into the shower, then make myself breakfast which almost always involves Marmite on some sort of bread creation.
Accompanying this are several cups of coffee as my days are currently long and exhausting. I make myself a packed lunch and then rush out to the car to drive to work which is nearby, hoping that I don’t get stuck behind any farm vehicles. People in cities complain of slow moving traffic when commuting to work but they should try driving behind a tractor on a narrow lane for several miles.
My typical day involves…
My typical day over the summer involves working very hard at an outdoor tree ropes centre based at Holkham Hall in North Norfolk. I’m qualified to go up trees to rescue distraught children who have become too scared to move. It’s not very glamorous rescuing crying children but there is a satisfaction in getting them to relax, smile and laugh when getting them down safely. It’s also a big change from most of my time during lockdown where I was able to write and record in my home studio every day.
The best part of my day…
The best part of my day is getting home from work (it is physically exhausting climbing up and down trees for several hours non-stop), grabbing my guitar in the sitting room, sit down with a cup of tea, and letting the day’s stresses pass away.
The worst part of my day is when…
The worst part of my day is probably the waking up and realising I’ve got to do it all over again. Haha
At the end of my day I will…
At the end of my day when I get come home I will sit in the garden and have a cuddle with my bestest friend, my dog Olli. Who need friends when you’ve got a dog. I may do the odd live streaming show later in the evening, and catch up with my manager on current release plans and promotion. I’m usually shattered so go to bed early, watching Sherlock Holmes, before drifting off to sleep.

If I wasn’t a musician I would probably be some sort of chef as I absolutely love cooking and making people smile through food. Either that, or I would be some sort of artist as I love to paint and create stuff. I’m a big animal lover so I would probably volunteer at an animal sanctuary.
