Clara Moschetta - 'Heavy Shoulders'

French/ Italian, London based singer-songwriter Clara Moschetta makes a thrilling introduction for herself with melodramatic debut single, ‘Heavy Shoulders’.

‘Heavy Shoulders’ by Clara Moschetta is a rare gem in the singer-songwriter scene. It’s an intensely piano-driven piece of balladry that is unafraid of its bold nature. With arpeggiated keys this harrowing and loud, you would expect Fiona Apple’s voice to come out of nowhere at any moment, but instead, Clara’s vocals flood into the track like smoke, with a demanding presence strong enough to completely hook you for the 4-minute runtime.

The level of song-writing here is ridiculously good. ‘Heavy Shoulders’ is something you’d expect from a legendary artist decades into their career. The structure is complex, refreshing and theatrical - segmented by layers of piano and subtle electronic production. The softly whirring synths in the background force you into a melodramatic dreamscape, all coming to a diminuendo at the track’s outro. The breakdown is a practice in creating surrealism through sound, the type of zany production you’d hear on one of Bon Iver’s latest projects. This track is a brutally honest reflection on dependence and the over-reliance on the ones we love. Clara Moschetta is one to watch, a timeless songwriter in the making.
