EP Review: Felid - 'Knowing You, Part One'
Felid is heading into the new year continuing his hot streak of alt-pop greatness with the release of his debut EP ‘Knowing You, Part One’.
Also known as Jay Rodger, this South African born artist has made Bristol his home and the base for his musical endeavours which initially started as an escapism but has become so much more than that. Felid already has a Glastonbury appearance under his belt, but the soloist decided to step out on his own in 2020 with a distinct fizzy, electronic sound and three singles to boot.
‘Knowing You, Part One’ is collation of Rodger’s work up to this point, once again showcasing his talents in terms of production and artistry to create a piece that is seductive, personal, and invigorating all in one.
Things don’t get much more personal than the opening track and Felid’s debut ‘Take It Off’ which still stands out even now, his following singles ‘Blame’ and ‘On Your Own’ also make an appearance and stand as great examples of the kaleidoscopic mind of Rodger.
We’re treated to two new tracks which expands Felid’s musical palette even further, with ‘Midnight Lover’ giving us a much-welcomed dose of a piano-led ballad whilst ‘Just This Once’ hits home what Felid does best with a heavy bass plucked straight from the 90’s.
Packaged together, these five tracks brilliantly encompass the best of what Felid can offer in terms of production as well as performance and is a brilliant start to what can be expected to be a breakout year for him.
‘Knowing You, Part One’, the debut EP from Felid is available now on all major streaming platforms.
