Let us introduce you to Brighton based singer songwriterter Lando Manning - who has just released his new track ‘Today’. He took a moment to talk to us about his music and his childhood memories of the opera.

Hey here, so your track ‘Today’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
It’s all about a general passivity towards everyday life (at the time of writing), each verse offers a different excuse why I shouldn’t get out of bed so it’s really just an ode to the lazy, angsty 17 year old living inside of us all!

You are based in the lovely Brighton, what are your favorite things about it? Where do you go for musical adventures?
I think my favourite thing about Brighton is just the pace of life, having grown up in South London, it’s a big change, everything is just at a gentler pace which suits me as I like to take my time doing things. I’ve only been down here a few months so I haven’t really been able to properly get my musical bearings, but when I used to come down and visit my brother we used to go an amazing dub bar called Riki Tik which is sadly closed now, just as I finally moved down here!

Music has always been in your family, being the son of a classical violinist, what are your earliest musical memories?
Probably going to the opera as a child, something I found quite tedious as a petulant young child, but I’ve grown to love how extra it all is. Car journeys were also equally memorable, I much preferred getting in the car with mum because she would whack the Bob Dylan and Fleetwood Mac on and give me a break from the symphonies!

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listen to you before?
Wistful whining.

Who are your key musical influences?
It kind of changes from release to release, I think I get a lot of my song writing structure from people like Townes van Zandt and Nick Drake, so I suppose they are the cornerstones of song writing influence. I think this release shows another side to my influences however; it was massively influenced by post-punk and grunge so I’m excited for people to listen to something that’s a bit different to my previous work.

Now this track is out, what next for you?
Miles (who co-produced the track) and I are working on an E.P. which will hopefully be ready in the coming months, I won’t give away too much but expect a whole load more lo-fi goodness!
