Etaoin - 'Bedroom Walls'

London-based singer-songwriter Etaoin makes her confessional debut with stirring single, ‘Bedroom Walls’, out now via Made Records.

Often it can be said that the most understated of songs hold the most power and understated is indeed the weapon of choice for Etaoin and her debut single, ‘Bedroom Walls’. Written entirely on acoustic guitar, ‘Bedroom Walls’ is the first song to be released from her upcoming EP. It’s a sensationally stripped song featuring emotive finger picking, subtle strings and Etaoin’s hushed, yet formidable, folk pop vocal.

One of the many things which is really special about the track is the way in which Etaoin effortlessly weaves vintage influences into contemporary pop. Her vocal twangs with the ghosts and inflection of a much older, yet timeless, soul; at once beautifully familiar and welcoming, but also peculiar and deeply captivating.

Another thing that makes this a debut well worth taking notice of is the way Etaoin wears vulnerability as a suit of armour. Through being exposed, self-awareness grows and that is where Etaoin finds her strength. ‘Bedroom Walls’ is the type of song that innocently tugs at the heart strings, but there’s no naivety here. It’s a touching song that makes for an emotive listen, but ‘Bedroom Walls’ also has fresh and catchy melodies which are oddly feel-good.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about the way Etaoin is creating warts and all, relatable music, that invites her listener to be her confidant. Already, it is quite clear ‘Bedroom Wall's’ is taken from an EP well worth waiting for.
