Jenny Kern is leaving no stone unturned on her quest for self-awareness, and ‘Coming Back For Me’ is another introspective missile launched straight out of her emotive indie pop arsenal.

Soundtracking sober, self reflection and the uglier sides of human emotion with upbeat and cosmic-infused melodies has become quite the signature sound for Jenny Kern and her work with producer Andy Seltzer. As such, ‘Coming Back For Me’ moves with a buoyant percussive driven nature that captures the feeling of a fluttering and stomping heart full of anxiety and conflicted emotion; a powerful contrast to Kern’s soothing vocal that never falters in its efforts to stir its listeners emotions.

Underneath the heavier tones, there’s plucky little piano and ambient cinematic nuances that at times feel scattered and misplaced, but there’s a sense of unregulated jubilance there too; perhaps it’s not quite hope, but the elation of person finding peace with their own solitude. And solitude is really what ‘Coming Back For Me’ is trying to transcend. It’s a race wherein Kern is outrunning loneliness to embrace the strength that can manifest through being alone. For it is within silence and solitude that we can make space to truly know ourselves.

’Coming Back For Me’ is taken from Kern’s very promising upcoming EP, which is scheduled for what looks like a Spring release. And if there is one thing When The Horn Blows can say with certainty, we’ll always be coming back for more of Jenny Kern.
