Sophia Alexa makes a stunning first impression with her debut single ‘House Of Cards’. A delicate indie pop song showcasing Sophia’s beautiful vocals, creating a perfect introduction to this artist. She took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind the track and her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
Firstly Joni Mitchell. She’s the ultimate storyteller with the wildest melodies. Then I’d probably say Phoebe Bridgers. Who doesn’t love this woman. She is a genius lyric writer who tells a very personal story. Lastly I’d say Bob Dylan because he feels like the soundtrack to my childhood.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
I love Annie Hall but mainly Diane Keaton’s role because she plays this quirky, authentic and real woman you hardly see in movies. I resonate with her on many levels and want to channel her energy in my music and life.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
I love Amsterdam. I lived there until I was around 13 and even though its been a while I still feel so attached and nostalgic when I think about the years I spent there.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
I would say Joan Didion. In her writing she is able to paint California and the 60s/70s (a time I’m quite obsessed with) in the most eye opening and revealing way.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
My track ‘House of Cards’ came from one of my many London tube ride rants where I pull out my notes app and give myself time to write down anything and everything on my mind, unfiltered. I was on my way to a session and the words ‘house of cards’ and ‘bullet to my daydreams’ is what I walked in with.

How would you like to inspire people?
I want to be a storyteller like Joni Mitchell. I want people to connect to my stories and my vulnerabilities.
