Brimheim - 'Favorite Day of the Week'
Sombre and reflective with a soft-rock flair, ‘Favorite day of the week’ is a sophisticated expansion of Brimheim’s soul-searching oeuvre and is a perfect accompaniment to any rainy autumn afternoon.
Opening line “I am going to go completely honest with you” sums up Brimheim’s approach to lyricism quite nicely. The track is raw and edifying without becoming overly earnest.
Crisp vocals lend the song an almost ASMR appeal and ethereal harmonies create a powerful sense of aching melancholy. The tune is elevated by a folky, acoustic vibe redolent of Joni Mitchell, but discordant guitar flourishes bring an eerie quality to the artist’s confessions of inner turmoil.
Forthcoming debut album ‘Can’t hate myself into a different shape’ will, as the title suggests, further explore themes of self-reckoning and inner battles in the same manner as previous 2021 release ‘Poison fizzing on a tongue’, a lo-fi feminist pop tune.
Brimheim’s discography is packed with similarly philosphical lyrics packaged with darky, dusky melodies that grow more enchanting with each listen, and this latest offering will certainly match fan expectations.
