John Myrtle - 'Get Her Off My Mind'
Indie pop songsmith John Myrtle shares charming new single ‘Get Her Off My Mind’.
Hands up if you’ve ever posted a song to your Instagram story, Twitter feed, Facebook timeline for a very specific person to see. Well, here’s one you may want to keep an eye on! ‘Get Her Off My Mind’ is not only incredibly catchy, it’s also hilariously accurate. Wrapped into a playful soundscape of sunny guitar lines and heart-warming vocals, John’s tongue in cheek lyricism is 100% to the point – “Love is such a curse. Too stupid to tell a friend […] and work is no cure, I just think of her more and more.”
Surprisingly, a specific person was not at all what John had in mind when writing this absolute gem. In fact, ‘Get Her Off My Mind’ is quite simply dedicated to his love of beach-pop love anthems: “This song was written a long time ago and has stayed with me throughout the years so to finally give it a release is both exciting and relieving,” he says about the track. “I remember I was listening to a lot of The Beach Boys at the time, and just a lot of classic 60s pop which I guess is what I listen to anyway. Here though, I wanted to do a song that was just a very simple, catchy 3-minute pop song, like a Monkees track or something!”
With its bubbly melodies and bright, infectious feel, ‘Get Her Off My Mind’ is everything you need to start the year off right. Whether you use it to confess your undying love to a special someone or dance around the living room all by yourself, it’s a track guaranteed to lighten every mood.
