Dark Bloom - 'Daydream'

Dark Bloom are a Leicester-based trio bringing timely passion and honesty with their new single ‘Daydream’.

The track is a change in style from their last release ‘Bad News’, and suggests there is nothing stopping them from bigger things.

‘Daydream’ is an ode to getting older and the perils that come with that. The band support the Samaritans, and the mental health issues around dealing with the loss of loved ones is as relevant now as it ever has been.

Producer Chris Coulter brings his decade-plus of experience with acts like Arcane Roots and Jamie Lenman to the table to take the raw emotion of the song and push it to a wider audience.

From the song’s poignant beginning, ‘Daydream’ amplifies the rock elements just after the minute mark. It soars where it is meant to soar, and delivers with a necessary hint of angst.

Sulley Archer’s wistful vocals repeat the refrain “the best laid plans just went awry, and it’s just another daydream again”. That true emotion sits on top of Robbie Birnie’s guitar riffs and Ethan Syre’s passionate drums. The overall effect is the creation of a sad sound, but one which is not overwhelming.

Twinning vulnerability and honesty, it is a moody new applicant for your personal emo playlist. Indeed, ‘Daydream’ offers an insight into what DarkBloom can do, and the much-needed anthem offers a glimpse of some cliched light at the end of this weary tunnel.
