Rising Alt-R&B singer, songwriter and producer Jazmine Flowers introduces herself on poignant debut single ‘Awkward’.

To a backdrop of cool beats and groove-infused rhythms, ‘Awkward’ creates the perfect environment for Jazmine’s soulful vocals to shine as she impresses with sheer eloquence. To match the track’s catchy atmosphere, Jazmine’s lyricism effortlessly switches between light-hearted - almost poking fun at feeling socially awkward (“try to shake my hand but I go in for a hug”) - and a much harsher reality. She explains: “The lyrics ‘I don’t chat shit about shit I don’t know no shit about, I’d still lick the floor despite the taste in my mouth,’ I wrote because so many people overcompensate for their shyness with talking shit and acting smart, but I will happily bask in my awkwardness.”

Relatable and empowering, ‘Awkward’ is a track that speaks to millions of people. It’s an anthem for introverts that puts Jazmine on the map as an extremely talented songwriter and force to be reckoned with. It’s clear to see that her relationship to her music goes deep. As she puts it: “I suck at saying how I feel and how I experience things in words so I put it into music, not necessarily just in the lyrics though, I think sometimes you can convey a thought better with a sound, I care so much about the production. It’s important to me that listening to my music feels like how I do inside.”
