Hyperpop newest secret weapon glaive shares video for ‘astrid’ directed by Charlie Grant and Hunter Ray Barker.

Many teenagers have somehow found time to explore side hustles while virtually attending high school in the new normal. Places like TikTok are full of small businesses run by teens from their very own bedrooms, from clothing companies to production studios, you name it. Many of them have even started their own music projects just like Ash Guiterrez, aka glaive who put out his debut EP ‘cypress grove’ in 2020.

Soon after, he got noticed and signed by Interscope/Polydor and has since amassed a pretty steady fanbase thanks to his very short, yet incredibly alluring and catchy productions. ‘astrid’, being the flagship single, is the perfect introduction to his world. With only 1:42 mins of pure musical acid, the track highlights his clever lyricism, smooth and haunting voice, and hyperpop production style which combined, feel just like a quick nicotine hit.

glaive now presents us with another dimension of his art with the help of directors Charlie Grant and Hunter Ray who are known for their work in shows like Dexter and with artists such as Lana Del Rey. The visuals are a mix between the mountain life in North Carolina (where glaive is originally from), and a pseudo nocturnal nightmare, reflecting perfectly the intentions of the song.

After seeing this and listening to his track ‘cloak n dagger’ with ericdoa, we cannot wait to see what else does the heir of hyperpop have in store for us this year.
