Rising alt-folk artist la loye (the charming alias of Dutch songwriter Lieke Heusinkveld) shares heartfelt new single ‘I only hear you in my song’.

Everything about ‘I only hear you in my song’ is poetic. From its gently melancholic soundscape over intricate guitar lines to la loye’s marvellous lyricism, every inch of this song aligns seamlessly with its raw theme of looming heartache and builds the ideal setting for her soothingly emotive vocals to shine. “When writing the song, I was in the midst of falling out of love,” Lieke reveals. “One day I just woke up and realised I didn’t miss the person I thought I was supposed to miss most, and I didn’t feel all that bad about it. I was walking on thin ice for a long time trying to avoid a confrontation, which I knew could only end in us parting ways. So, the song isn’t necessarily a break-up song, but is far more descriptive of the ominous period before the big blow-out”.

Wonderfully comfortable with vulnerability and endlessly immersive, la loye is an artist you should not be sleeping on. Her lo-fi soundscapes equal visions of free-flowing rivers and enchanted forests that are undeniably magnetic. This journey has only just begun, so, dust off your favourite backpack and come along for a transcending ride.
