Suffolk-based Tommy Ashby releases uplifting and optimistic new single ‘Happy Just To Know’ featuring Lydia Clowes.

‘Happy Just to know’ is the first single from Tommy Ashby’s upcoming EP due out on 14th May on Wow and Flutter Records. All 5 tracks feature the incredible vocal tones of Lydia Clowes who better known for being half of electro pop duo Bad Honey. This is not the first time the pair have sung together though, and you can catch them in Will Ferrell’s latest movie Eurovision alongside other upcoming British artists such as Anteros.

The single is a bright and uplifting love story featuring atmospheric textures and picked guitars that build to and upbeat chorus that makes us think of sunnier days ahead. With a catchy singalong vocal hook, dreamy harmonies and hand claps throughout, ‘Happy Just to Know’ will be stuck in your head all day. The second verse of the song is sung by Lydia, which gives us a clever view from the other side of the story.

Tommy Said “‘Happy Just To Know’ was written at the end of February 2020, I’d just moved in with my girlfriend and relocated to the Suffolk coast. Coming out of winter felt like a new beginning, but at the same time coronavirus was becoming pretty scary. I wanted to write a song about finding a true connection with someone and how that feeling evolves over time, I also wanted to draw reference to the changing of seasons along the way. The pandemic has made it apparent just how much we as humans value physical contact and interactions. Loneliness has been so prevalent and has made us re-evaluate all the things we took for granted. Since this is a song about the start of a relationship, I thought it would be interesting to get both points of view across on the vocals. It’s funny that everyone is nervous at the beginning of a relationship and we just don’t need to be

The track was self produced by Tommy over lockdown in his home studio where he was able to experiment with sounds and textures, drawing on his knowledge from a PhD in Psychoacoustics. With previous tour supports including Luke Sital-Singh and Jamie Lawson, Tommy can’t wait to get back out on the road, and we cant wait to see what this year has in store for him.
