Folk newcomer heka –the gorgeous alias of Italy-raised singer-songwriter Francesca Brierley-shares marvellous new single ‘(a) wall’.

Set to the gentle lull of a dreamy instrumentation infused with the soothing euphoria of far-away trumpets, ‘(a) wall’ could easily become a timeless classic. Driven by an experimental take on folk, there is a distinct otherworldly quality that shines through in heka’s songwriting while her gentle vocals give the track a comforting touch.  “I guess the song is an ode to anger. Not in an absolute sense but as the cathartic alternative to the numb powerlessness that can take over and swallow every other emotion when we find ourselves in a painful or shocking situation,” Francesca says about the track. “‘Hate’ in this sense is seen as a way to eventually move past the grief, especially in the face of someone else’s lack of action, or evasiveness, which can be overwhelmingly paralysing.”

Intricate and intimate, ‘(a) wall’ is the lead single to heka’s upcoming EP ‘(a)’ that, with relentless creativity and acute attention to detail, promises to whisk you away into a mesmerising world unbound by space and time.
