Inspired #228 - Lily Williams
London baed singer-songwriter Lily Williams took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her new single ‘Happy For You’.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
So hard to say!! At the moment: FINNEAS, Ashe and Sara Bareilles.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I love watching films and often get inspired by certain scenes, quotes or even just beautiful cinematography. I recently watched Little Women and wrote a song from one of the scenes in that!!
What city do you find the most inspiring?
When I was home in London I actually felt really inspired to write, so I would say London!
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Most inspiring person, my mum. A total cliche but it’s true - mums are the best.
What were your inspirations when writing your new single?
I was writing about the feeling of trying to get over an ex and be happy for them when they are clearly better off without you. Me and my good friend “Flatmate” were musically inspired by artists like Lauv, LANY and JP Saxe!
How would you like to inspire people?
I hope my music connects with people and helps them get through emotional moments in their lives! I also hope it lets them know that they are not alone - human beings are so similar! We all go through the highs and lows of life, so I just hope people can relate to the songs as we go through life together!!
