Introducing #122 - Cody Frost
Let us introduce you to Cody Frost, who has just released her debut single ‘Verbal Warnings’ - a rebellious electro-pop track blending with punk rock sounds. She took a moment to talk to us about her music.
Hey there Cody, so your debut track ‘verbal warnings’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
Hey! I used to be in a job that I really hated. My boss was a loser and lived for his job, he really made an effort to make me feel as small as he could and I couldn’t be arsed with it to be brutally honest haha.
You grew up in Burnley, where you lived in a pub that was repeatedly broken into. Can you tell us a bit more about that?
I mean, it was awful really as you could probably imagine. I only lived in the pub when I was 18, it was my first flat when I moved out. It got broken into a lot actually, people were on the roof taking lead and robbing vodka haha, we were safe though, it was just scary! I never really slept right after that I guess.
Music was your escape from that, what music / artists did you first get into?
I love so many different artists it would be criminal to try and name them all, but my all time favourite artists are My Chemical Romance and Enter Shikari!
You have been working with Dan Weller, who is a co-founder of the metal band SikTh - how did this partnership come about?
My manager, Vicky, knew that I love enter Shikari and Dan, having worked with them seemed to be a good fit! Every time we’re together it feels like we’re making magic, so we just rolled with it!
What are your key influences when it comes to your music?
I like so many different genres, I grew up listening to emo and metal-core and then I got into ska/reggae and punk. But honestly I just like so much music know I would put know where to start haha! Enter Shikari (I never shut up about them, but I feel like I owe them a lot) are probably the biggest influence in terms of lyrics and their endless genre bending.
How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to you before?
Oh, I don’t actually know. I’m not even sure if you put it all together it makes sense haha! I mean I feel like alt-pop is the easiest way to describe it but they might just have to listen to it to find out! 😉
