Sunnbrella - 'Lost & Found'
Though the last 12 months have been different for everyone, it certainly seems to be the case that the last three have been the hardest; the vast majority of us struggling to find productivity or enthusiasm, existing in an almost perpetual daydream.
It’s for that reason, the music of Sunbrella feels so fitting, so timely. And though first introduced to his music a little over a year ago, it’s never felt as resonant as it does now. A ethereal hybrid of woozy shoegaze, bedroom pop and processed beats, it provides the perfect soundtrack to the long and listless days so many of us are currently faced with.
Indeed, latest single ‘Lost & Found’ seems not just embody these emotions but embrace them, in everything from its title right down to the grainy, Super8 style video that relishes in its own nostalgic malaise. Built around deep bass grooves and airy guitars, it’s a track that seeks to find meaning and permanence in a world of instant gratification and fleeting fancies. And though it’s interest might lie in hoping for realness, for permanence, any kind of optimism the track retains is fleeting and ephemeral itself.
Harbouring a heady sense of indifference and ambiguity, ‘Lost & Found’s appeal lies not in any sort of catharsis or resolution, but in the sense that despite how isolated, lost or disorientated we might have felt over the previous year, we haven’t been alone in feeling that.
