Oscar Welsh - 'Busy'

Busy, something none of us outside of the front line and Joe Wicks can honestly claim to have been over the last year is the latest single from multi-million streaming bedroom pop singer-songwriter Oscar Welsh

The London via Surrey nineteen-year-old released his debut five-track EP ‘Vernal’ last summer which, in an ordinary year, would have made the perfect accompaniment to fields awash with Dark Fruits Strongbow. However, it wasn’t to be, but this may not be a bad thing on reflection.

Returning with a more assured and polished sound, ‘Busy’ is a brilliant continuation to the sound of his previous work. There’s a natural progression which may not have been as easy to come by had last year been swamped with back-to-back gigs. The song is bursting with ideas as it flows between dreamy lounge R&B and relaxed rap.

Addressing the meaning behind the track, Welsh says “‘Busy’ is about how we hate to spend ages zooming around on public transport to see people we can’t be bothered to see. Sometimes I lie about being busy to get out of seeing people and I think everyone is guilty of that.”

With snappy songs like this in his pocket he needn’t worry about fabricating elaborate excuses to get out of awkward social encounters for much longer as I’d imagine his diary will soon be wall-to-wall with gigs up and down the country.
