Smoothboi Ezra - 'Stuck'
Irish indie newcomer, Smoothboi Ezra, announces the release of their sophomore EP with its title track 'Stuck'.
The 19-year-old songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, offers another candid insight into their introspective workings swaddled in sincerity. With an apt refreshing sense of purity, 'Stuck' explores the heartache of the unspoken looming end of a romantic relationship, as Ezra explains, "'Stuck' is a song about being in a relationship with someone you care a lot about, but you know it's not going to work out. It's an unsaid mutual agreement that you can feel the relationship ending, but you're both waiting on the other person to end it."
Being an individual who is gender non-binary and on the autism spectrum, Smoothboi Ezra's offhand conversational yearnings present an endearing safe space for many people who are often underrepresented in today's media. There's a real sense of comfort bundled in the lull of Ezra's hushed vocal and nonchalant supporting arrangements - often feeling like a much needed warm hug - 'Stuck' being the perfect example of that.
Lyrically the track is undeniably somewhat sombre deluged with sentiment and vulnerability - a transparent expression of emotion. "The worst year of your life started when you met me / You say I shouldn't take it personally / But the smiling's fake and I've mastered it / So have you, you just don't want to admit it." Delicately wrapped in sensitivity, Smoothboi Ezra's alluring brand of contemplation is one everyone can relate to in some capacity. Beautifully unafraid 'Stuck' is the touching setup for the four-track EP we can expect early this June.
