Wallice – 'Hey Michael'

Indie pop newcomer Wallice shares her spectacular new track ‘Hey Michael’.

Sharp vocals stand tall against a hazy wall of reverb-coated guitars, giving ‘Hey Michael’ the fuzzy aura of a bustling party. Swimming in it, Wallice’s cutting lyricism gets right to the point: “You’re the life of the party, but the party is finally over.” Talking about the track, she explains: “Hey Michael’ is a revenge anthem for anyone who has encountered a gaslighting, manipulative person. It’s what I wish I would have said to all the ‘Michael’s’ I have met in my life.“

Bold and more than a little cheeky, ‘Hey Michael’ is a grade A indie-pop tune that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Instead, we find Wallice poking fun at her own shortcomings as much as she is criticising the men in the room. “This isn’t a man-hating song, it’s just something many people can relate to,” she elaborates. “Sometimes it’s embarrassing to admit just how bad a friend, date, or romantic partner was and a lot of the time, I would just smile and laugh off stupid remarks but when I think back, I wish I had told them off.  But at the same time, my persona in the song is not the best person either.”

Previous single ‘23’ already alluded to Wallice’s innate ability to craft infectious soundscapes infused with the introspective pull of addressing gnawing growing-pains in her heart-on-sleeve lyricism. ‘Hey Michael’ confirms this suspicion. With quick witted vocals and the attitude to match, Wallice is an untameable force to be reckoned with.
