Resident ray of sunshine, John Myrtle, flexes his jangle-pop muscles on infectious new single ‘How Can You Tell If You Love Her?’

Set to a cheery scenery of bright guitars and sunny vocals, ‘How Can You Tell If You Love Her’ immediately spreads a sense of hopeful positivity –a trait that seems to have become almost synonymous with John Myrtle’s catchy brand of sound. But beware: those carefree melodies cannot always be taken at face-value. Underneath its sparkling exterior, ‘How Can You Tell If You Love Her’ finds John confronting a number of anxieties and self-doubt. “I guess the song is about being sure of the relationship you’re in,” he reveals. “You can never really be certain you’re doing the right thing, you’ve just got to trust yourself. It’s not like you can get a tape measure or complete a questionnaire to tell you if what you’re doing is right.” 

With its infectiously retro vibe and bubbly grooves, ‘How Can You Tell If You Love’ joins previous single ‘Get Her Off My Mind’ in fuelling excitement for John Myrtle’s upcoming debut album ‘Myrtle Soup’. The record is already shaping up to be a portal into light-hearted escapism. As John explains: “What’s more soothing and reassuring than a homemade bowl of soup!? I want people to play this record and enjoy my homemade sounds with a nice calm sigh!”
