Holly Humberstone – 'Haunted House'

BBC Sound Of 2021 runner up Holly Humberstone shares enchanting new single ‘Haunted House’.

Inspired by Holly’s childhood home, ‘Haunted House’ explores themes of home, family and displacement to the sombre tune of a dusty piano. “I wrote this song about the old and characterful house I grew up in. The house is such a huge part of who I am and our family,” Holly reveals. “With my sisters and I moving out and living separate lives, coming home feels very comforting and one of the only things keeping us all connected. The house is almost falling down around us now though, and we’ve realised that pretty soon we’ll be forced to leave.” In true Humberstone fashion, ‘Haunted House’ –as ‘Falling Asleep At The Wheel’ before it– is laced with Holly’s stunning lyricism that leaves a trail of dizzying emotions as the track fades out with a final plea: “Don’t say that I’m leaving. In the morning, let me lie here with you.”

Heartfelt and immediate, ‘Haunted House’ is the first taste of new material from Holly and comes infused with promises of an upcoming EP. With her delicate vocals and mesmerising grasp on storytelling, there is no denying that Holly Humberstone is one of the most exciting artists of her generation.
