Xana - 'Yellow'
Canadian up-and-coming powerhouse Xana reveals heartbreaking single 'Yellow'.
Every single one of us have, at some point, found ourselves in a position where the end of a relationship sparks the sudden need for change and creation. Some of us choose to take time off of social media while others feel the need to cut and dye their hair. However, some people do not realise their instincts to write poetry or songs are actually part of the healing process their subconscious is quietly pushing for. Canadian genre-bending pop artist Xana experienced just that while writing her new vulnerable single ‘Yellow’.
The track is a confessional piece of desperation and heartbreak beautifully expressed in poetic lyricism supported by a guitar-based pop production that highlights the maturity of Xana’s vocals. Speaking about the track, the artist says, “When I wrote Yellow, I didn't fully realize what it was about until a couple weeks later. My mind wanted to believe everything in that relationship was fine, but my subconscious was screaming ‘no, it’s time to let go even if you don’t want to’. This song was my first wake up call. It made me very sad for a long time, but when I listen to it now it’s a reminder of the first time I chose myself. It’s bittersweet”
The single is accompanied by a cinematic video which features Xana’s passionate contemporary dancing alongside co-star and choreographer Maia Cervellin. The collection of frames perfectly mirrors the feelings transmitted by the song as they both artistically portray the relatable struggles of wanting to go back to something that no longer belongs to you.
Produced by Liam Moes from Moose Tracks Productions, ‘Yellow’ not only showcases Xana’s musical abilities but it also brings light to the fact that she manages to put every listener in her shoes to have them experience the emotions of the song as their own. With more incredible music to come, the bar has been set really high.
