Hollan x Zach Wood - 'Water'
Singer-songwriters Hollan x Zach Wood shares intimate indie folk on ‘Water’ taken from their new 5-track EP, ‘Cowgirland’
Delicate guitarwork and emotive organic folk nuances set a touching backdrop to Hollan x Zach Wood’s ‘Water’. ‘Water’ is a deeply affecting song with delicate melodies that tug directly on the heartstrings. Hollan’s apparitional vocal is dulcet and instantly likeable, leaving her listener tenderly hanging on to every confessional word she says.
You see, ‘Water’ is a fragile song that explores the theme of loss of identity But despite the sorrow underpinning the song, Hollan’s soul-searching ultimately leads her back to herself and this is a victory well worth celebrating.
‘When I was 19 turning 20 I spent three months in a small town in Germany learning the language and traveling a bit. Those were easily some the most formative months of my life. I wrote "Water" a week after I returned home to Pennsylvania and spent the following many months in a bad depression that sprung from feeling like I had lost my identity somewhere between cultures, and maybe even on the plane ride home. "Water" is a song that vividly traces the memories from which I felt most myself in my lifetime. It was a song written in hopes to bring me back myself, and in turn, I hope it does the same for you.’ - Hollan
‘Water’ is the lead single to have been taken from Hollan and Zach Wood’s 5-track collaborative EP, ‘Cowgirland’, which was self-recorded and self-produced in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during 2020 and 2021. ‘Water’ sits besides the joyfully raw and upbeat folk track ‘Fire Engine’ which has some really beautiful layered male/female vocals, the compassionate and heart-warming single , ‘Rare as Gold’, the dreamy single, ‘Milk & Honey’ and the lively ‘West Coast’.
