The Birthdays - 'Bunny'
The Birthdays take us on a journey of pure guitar haze bliss with new single ‘Bunny’.
The band are a collaboration project between Ben Grey of Dear Boy and Jackson Phillips of Day Wave, having toured with each other and becoming friends in 2017, they have always wanted to create something together when their schedules allowed it. So in June 2020, Ben began sending Jackson voice memos of song ideas and they began discussing what their collaboration might sound like. Thus creating The Birthdays.
‘Bunny’ was created and recorded in the summer of 2021 in Jackson’s studio from their very first session. “I think we were both just eager and curious to hear what a “Grey Wave” song would actually sound like. It’s its own fuzzy, melodic, interesting thing that I don’t think sounds like anything else happening right now’.
With early comparisons have being made to the likes of Yuck, The Pains of Being Pure Heart, Cleaners from Venus, The Martinis and Adorable. Fueled by pure guitar fuzz and stunning melodies, The Birthdays have created their own brand from a classic indie distortion filled sound.
This might be early days for The Birthdays, with both Ben Grey and Jackson Phillips busy with their own bands, but we are sure and hopeful that they find time to create more delights like ‘Bunny’.
