SHEARS - 'Afterthought'
The train of momentum is continuing at lightning speed for SHEARS with her latest offering continuing to throw more and more coal on the fire.
‘Afterthought’ is the second single to be written and self-produced by Edinburgh-stationed SHEARS and follows on from the dreamy and bursting with colour ‘Pick Me Up’ which was released across all the usual platforms at the end of June. The new track carries a similar sonic aesthetic to its predecessor with an array of synths forming the main engine of the instrumental side of the song.
The high point of the song could well be the literal highest point of the song as SHEARS manages to land an incredible high B♭6 whistle note as the song nears its destination.
While this may only be the second single Becca Shearing has produced, it sounds like she’s already a seasoned pro at it. There’s so much to tune in on but it feels like just the right amount so you can get lost in the perfect blend of bass, synth and vocals without feeling like your ears are getting fed too much information. DIY producer/musician Georgia had a breakthrough year in 2020 with a ton of radio play and a Mercury nomination to top off a great year and I could see SHEARS following her path but making her own footsteps.
‘Afterthought’ is another runaway success from SHEARS and a real signal of intent from a hugely talented musician and producer who continues to impress and shows no sign of running out of steam any time soon.
