Introducing #201 - Lexie Carroll

Let us introduce you to London based seventeen year old singer-songwriter Lexie Carroll - who have just released her first track of 2022 - ‘Racing Raindrops’. The song is about remembering childhood friendship, weaving through carefree memories that evoke the innocence and purity of friendship whilst also capturing the emotion and longing in reflecting on how time and relationships inevitably move and change.

Speaking on the premise of the track about a friendship growing apart, Lexie said, “It’s quite bittersweet as although there’s distance and you don’t see each other the way you used to, it’s comforting knowing that they’re still there and the real closeness never changes.”

Lexie took a moment to talk to us about her music.

Hey there Lexie, how are you? So your new track ‘Racing Raindrops’ is out now, can you tell us what it is about?
Hello!! I’m good thank you, really excited about the release! I wrote Racing Raindrops about growing up and apart from someone who was a really big part of your childhood, I was thinking about the way relationships change with time. There are some people who you won’t see as much or even at all as you get older but they’ll always be a massive part of you and there’ll forever be a closeness in that, so it’s quite bittersweet I think.

You are based in London, what are your favourite things to do there? Where do you go for adventures?
To be honest, I live in the outskirts of London and am not too keen on the hustle and bustle of the city so I tend not to venture very far. The next single is actually kind of about that!! More recently though, studio sessions and things have taken me all over the city which has been quite cool and new! This is making me sound like such a grandma but I really like walking along the river Thames, it’s really pretty!

What are your earliest childhood memories when it comes to music? What are the key influences in your music?
I can’t really remember a time when I wasn’t writing bits of songs really but the first proper memory I have is probably writing a song with my best friend called ‘best friends forever’ when we were about 6- I could still sing the chorus now !! As for influences- I was a HUGE dodie fan, still am, but she definitely inspired me when I was really beginning to get into writing so I’d say that’s impacted me a lot. But also Cavetown, Holly Humberstone, Maisie Peters and Phoebe Bridgers songs make up the majority of my playlists and definitely make me want to write new things.

Now your track is out there, what next for you?
There’s so many more songs to come!! A couple more are well and truly on the way- I’m in the process of releasing an EP so the next single is coming sooner than you’d think. But I’m constantly writing and I’ve already written the next EP and am getting excited about that so it’s all go go go!
