Introducing #202 - grentperez

Let us introduce you to grentperez - who has just released his latest bedroom pop gem -‘Absence of You’. After growing a name for himself last year with his flawless vocals, musical charisma and timeless sound, grentperez is back to unveil the next installment of swooning bedroom pop.

Born from a love lost, Absence of You is a comforting pick me up for anyone who’s navigating heartache. Explaining further, he says: “Absence of you is a song of heartbreak and coming to terms with your worth, to search and find that there's a world waiting for you outside of yourself and that broken relationship. We see memories presented as burdens only there to weigh you down, with the idea of letting go being the overall theme; 'and now the absence of you sets me free”.

He took a moment to talk to talk to us about his music.

Hey there grentperez, how are you? So your new track ‘Absence of You’ is out now, can you tell us what it is about?
Hey! I've been great, this year's starting off really well.
Absence Of You speaks on the aftermath of heartbreak, coming to terms with ones self and finding a new peace within your world - a really momentus moment in someones life.

Where are you based and what are your favourite things to do there? Where do you go for adventures?
I am based in Western Sydney, Aus, there isn't too much to do around here that really differs from other places, but I guess that leads to being creative with your leisure. I love painting outdoors with my partner, bowling and go-karting when I can afford haha, have really calming walks near the water in the city and kick back at a mates spot. In terms of adventures, anything can become an adventure if you think about it, I love to go on random drives with my partner with no real destination to cure boredom, even if that means driving down roads we've never driven within the suburb. Other definite spots are the Blue Mountain hike trails, the beaches around sydney, pretty suburbian areas around the city.

What are your earliest childhood memories when it comes to music?
For as long as I can remember i'd been present to a mix of different genres, each coming from different groups from the family. My siblings loved RnB and Soul, like Musiq Soulchild, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, etc. and my parents always played a mix of 70s Folk like Bread or Don McLean and other classic greats. Ultimately i'm super appreciative of that as I think it's cultivated into the person I am now.

What are the key influences in your music?
I love a good story driven narrative, and in saying that i'd like to say my influences go into the likings of Bread, Don McLean, The Beatles, Rex Orange County, Daniel Caesar and Frank Ocean to name a few.
I feel as though my music always drifts from genre and story so having a few inspo's comes in handy.

Now your track is out there, what next for you?
From right now I can confidently say that this is truly only the beginning, I'm definitely gonna keep releasing more music so stay tuned, but ultimately let's just see where this goes :)
Oo and live shows, definitely putting live shows more and more into priority as time goes.
