Live Review: Pip Millett - O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, London 08/11/2022
Mancunian singer-songwriter Pip Millett shares a journey of healing at her sold-out show at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire.
Right before going on a European tour a 24 - year old singer brings a freshly released 'When Everything Is Better, I'll Let You Know' to one of London’s beloved venues. A 17-track compilation of neo-soul and r&b encapsulates fragile experiences of Pip’s personal healing path in a disposing and resilient way.
Opening similarly to her debut album, the show starts with ‘Think You Know Me (Intro)’. Continuing with the ‘Ride With Me’ she invites the crowd to take a journey through her story. Lively instrumental accompaniment played by musicians who join Pip on stage gives a new sound to her distinct fusion of soul and r&b.
Proceeding towards some of her well-known tracks such as ‘Running’ and ‘Hard Life’ she certainly puts the audience at ease.
One can read some shyness in her movements that slowly fades away as the show progresses. The initial surprise from seeing the crowd is now more of excitement. “That’s why I really love being here!” - she says referring to her fans.
After the meditative ‘On Reflection (Interlude)’, Pip wraps the first part of her show with some well-known tracks such as ‘Do Well’ and ‘Heavenly Mother’ before diving into the neo-soul beams of the new album. You can feel the excitement of the people when they hear the falsettos of ‘Walk Away’ live for the first time. It’s nothing less than impressive to witness how the whole hall of O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire fills up with the sounds of the crowd singing every single word together with Pip. There’s certainly magnetic energy surrounding a young artist that's hard to resist.
The confident and powerful ‘My Way’ together with a personally disclosing ‘Heal’ are some of the last songs from a new album to sound before jumping to the closing part of the show. After making sure that the rhythmic dancing moves got spread throughout the crowd, Pip finishes the show with the beloved single ‘Make Me Cry’.
What is certain about Pip Millet’s show at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire is that it not only truly allowed the audience to get to know her better but showed the excellence of 'When Everything Is Better, I'll Let You Know’ in the fresh way.
