CloseUp // Track Of The Month #003 // Sad Boys Club - ‘The Void Or Nothing’
The better months are coming guys, the storm should be done, the days are getting longer and the heating is on a little less, right? Our latest CloseUp track of the month sees us back Sad Boys Club’s latest single The Void or Nothing, taken from new EP I’m Not Afraid of The Death (But I Am Afraid of The Dying) released on 18th Feb.
The London quartet are known for their constantly evolving, unique alternative indie/emo, new single The Void or Nothing is no different. In their darkest phase yet, they use intricacy and depth on the latest cut, complex and melodic; it could well be their strongest music yet. For fans of Death Cab For Cutie, Taking Back Sunday but also drawing elements from The Cure & more, the track explores the performances of life and the various ways of escapism employed by those around us.
With much on the horizon, including a debut headline tour spanning the length of the UK amongst more, don’t sleep on Sad Boys Club.
Speaking about the song, frontman Jacob Wheldon spoke: “There’s something quite French I like about the title of ‘The Void or Nothing’. Le vide ou rien! ‘You can be optimistic and totally without hope’. That’s a lot of what life feels like, I think that’s what the whole EP is building to; this big crash landing. Art without an air of hopelessness is boring, but so is endless cynicism, you need to leave the door ajar.”
