Album Review: PUP - 'THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND'
‘THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND’ screams for attention in all the right ways! Morbid Stuff was a huge success for the band and this album seems to seamlessly pick up were it left off. ‘Totally Fine’ defines (in my humble opinion) the album in a big way, high energy, loud and just completely PUP. Lead vocalist Stefan Babcock’s voice is as charged and as potent as ever.
‘Life is unkind but then again so are you…’ ring out of Babcock in the most PUP way possible, punky and full of emotion. The album features ‘Robot Writes A Love Song’ which slightly more mechanical (no pun intended) than the other tracks on this album, though it’s more mellow, it’s undeniably a hit!
This album is for fans of good music, fresh guitar solos and beautifully raw drum beats. PUP’s signature sound shines through and elements of ’The Dream Is Over’ appear more polished and refined. ‘Four Chords’ a more simple track featured to packed with subtle irony and boasts a clean just straightforward piano composition. A pleasure to listen to.
New elements such as synths, more prominent piano work and even horns keep ‘THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND’ as fresh as the first listen. ‘Habits’ features great synth work while still staying true to the fans. ‘Grim Reaping” blasts listener with the aggressive punk we love from PUP, making you want to head bang, mosh and skate all at once.
Summing up ‘THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND’ would be like picking a favourite child…almost impossible! It’s so unique and unruly you’ll just have to give it a listen for yourself!
