In Conversation With #194 - Amelia Moore
Amelia Moore has just released her landmark debut EP ‘teaching a robot to love’ via Capitol Records.
“This project is the culmination of first love, first loss and the recognition that love is what separates us from the robots,” explains Amelia - showcasing the forward thinking process she has towards her music. Pushing boundaries to creative something fresh for the pop genre.
She took a moment to talk to us about how the EP came together.
Hey Amelia - so your new EP is finally here. How does it feel to have it out there in the world?
IT FEELS AMAZING!!!! I’ve been silently working on music in LA for about three years now, so it’s been a long time coming.
It is called ‘teaching a robot to love’ - what is the meaning behind that?
I think it speaks for itself! I felt like I was trying to teaching a robot to love in my last relationship. I was completely in love with somebody who kept telling me they “didn’t know how to feel anything.” I took it upon myself to play teacher but robots can’t learn anything!!!!! At least the one I was dealing with.
Where was it recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the creative process you are happy to share with us?
This whole project was recorded at my producer Pink Slip’s studio in Beachwood Canyon. We weren’t intending on making a whole new project but I got broken up with on my birthday in the middle of our writing camp…there were days I walked in already bawling crying. I have footage of my friends getting in a big cuddle puddle on top of me on the couch haha. It was a pretty painful experience but I deserved the closure I got from writing these songs.
What are the key themes and influences on the EP?
This is defiantly a heartbreak project with equal doses of vulnerability and anger. I don’t really remember needing much influence because what I was feeling was so real and present that all the songs just poured out of me. There’s a lot of robot vernacular and metal soundscapes that we had fun playing with too.
Do you have a favorite lyric on the EP? If so, which one and why?
“Replace my heart with lithium and maybe we’ll relate for once”!!! The only way I’ll relate to you and your dumb robot ass is if I put a battery where my heart should be! And the worst part is...I’d actually do it just because I love you and want to be closer to you. Ugh. Painful haha.
If the EP could be a soundtrack to any film - which one and why?
Ex Machina!!! Robot love. I think it would be perfect.
Now the EP is out there - what next for you?
A couple singles in the summer I’m extremely excited about…a feature or two…perhaps another little project before the years over?? We’ll see.
