CloseUp // Track of the Month #007 // Phoebe Green - ‘Just A Game’
It’s been hot. It’s been really hot, too hot. So hot we’re only just getting around to our CloseUp Track of the Month for July! This month it’s fair to say, was one of our easier decisions. Lancashire born, Manchester honed dark-pop specialist Phoebe Green’s debut album is out later this month (19th August, via Chess Club Records). We’ve been getting delicious teases and offerings throughout 2022, but the latest release ‘Just A Game’ could well be the best yet.
Exploring (what are now almost synonymous) self-deprecating themes of heartbreak and emotion, it shows a genre-shift again from Green whose newer work gets poppier with every release. After 2022 tour supports with Self Esteem, Everything Everything & more, it feels like a huge year for the soloist.
Speaking about the song Phoebe said: ""Just A Game" is probably the most obvious pop song on the album, which makes me feel kind of uneasy but excited," "I’m still coming to terms with making songs that aren’t entirely alternative because I’m so cautious of my songs making me cringe if they sound too polished, but this one is just a pop bop and I’m here for it."
