Indigo Sparke - 'Hysteria'
Indigo Sparke embraces the intricacies of intimacy on the gorgeously lovesick anthem, ‘Hysteria’.
Australian singer-songwriter Indigo Sparke, who relocated to New York in the spring of 2021, has gone from strength to strength since the release of her critically acclaimed subdued debut, Echo. The artist, who has collaborated with Aaron Dessner on her latest record (coming October 7th) explores her unapologetic emotions on a deeper level than seen before.
Dessner, who has previously worked with big names such as The National (of whom he is also a founding member) and international pop superstar Taylor Swift, stated that Sparke’s ideas seemed ‘cohesive and timeless’, and that their chemistry was ‘right’, resulting in an electric track list oozing with grief, love, and loss.
The first singles from the album, Blue and Pressure in my Chest, have already created hype for the artist’s second full-length project, and it is evident that her newest release, the titular single Hysteria (dropping on the 22nd of September), will only leave the listener wanting more. The track combines delicate, driven guitar hooks with Sparke’s breathtakingly raw, relatable lyricism.
The tune crafts a vivid soundscape, with melodious, fiery suspensions interlacing with beautifully wistful, hazy vocals. Indeed, Sparke’s dreamy voice is a highlight of the release, with the rising star’s glorious, full-bodied tone breathing life into the song. The track feels incredibly personal, yet painfully personal – in places, it feels as though Sparkes has climbed inside the mind of the listener, and is observing from within.
Sparke has already embarked on a North American tour, starting in September in Kansas City as a support act for The National, and has a co-headline tour with Irish folk-pop singer-songwriter Aoife Nessa Frances scheduled for late Autumn, starting on November 29th in Washington DC.
